The body of an unidentified person was found this morning apparently shot to death on a West Side street.
A passerby heard about five gunshots in the area before finding the victim unresponsive in the street at West Arthington Street and South Pulaski Road, said Chicago Police Sgt. Karla Chaplin, a police spokeswoman.
The passerby notified police of the discovery about 6 a.m. Police arrived about five minutes later and found the victim dead.
A spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office was aware of the fatality, but the victim’s identity was unavailable this morning. An autopsy for the body is scheduled for Sunday.
A homicide investigation was underway today.
The slaying happened just blocks away from where another homicide took place: Tyrone Williams, 19, and 17-year-old Percy Day, 17, were shot in the 3700 block of West Polk Street Friday night.
There’s no indication today’s shooting and last night’s are related.
